Before you convert
Is this pure black and white?
This is grayscale: black, white, and shades of gray in between. Photos keep their tonal detail. True monochrome (only black or white), threshold controls, and forcing all text to black are not included.
Will my text stay searchable?
No. Every page becomes a grayscale image at 150 DPI. Text is no longer selectable or searchable, and vector graphics become pixels. Visible page dimensions and orientation are retained. This tool does not add OCR; keep your original for editing or text search.
What happens to my files?
Your PDF is uploaded to our server—not converted in your browser. We use temporary files during conversion and remove them when processing finishes or fails. Documents are not sent to an external conversion provider or stored in your account. Rate-limit counters are kept separately.
Are forms and signatures preserved?
This creates an image-based PDF for reading and printing, not an archival copy. Supported form and annotation appearances are flattened. Links, editable fields, accessibility tags, and valid digital signatures are not retained. Review your output and keep the original.
Will the PDF be smaller?
Not necessarily. Grayscale removes color, but this is not a compression tool. Conversion is limited to 30 seconds and a 25 MB output; unusually complex files may be rejected.
Can I convert several PDFs at once?
Choose one PDF at a time, up to 10 MB and 50 pages. The free allowance is 10 attempts per hour, resetting on the hour (UTC), with no signup required.
